Praise + Fun = Success!
I want to congratulate and praise you for making the important decision to help your children learn English at a young age. You are giving them a gift that will make their futures brighter, increase their opportunities in society, and expand their view of the world. Speaking English will allow them to communicate with people beyond borders and beliefs. And hopefully by communicating we can create a more peaceful world for everyone to live in. Even after working for more than three decades at World Family, I am still amazed to see Japanese children as young as three years old speaking English. I believe that one key to helping children learn is by giving them genuine and specific praise and encouragement at the appropriate times. Children know when your praise is not genuine, so be careful when and how you praise. Also, it is probably a good idea to use different praise words from time to time. And try not to interrupt a child with your well-intentioned praise when he or she is concentrating because that can cause them to lose focus on what they are doing. A child’s potential is unlimited, and your praise can help them continue to believe in themselves and grow. Parental encouragement has many positive effects on overall development and learning. お子さんが小さいときに英語を学ばせようとみなさんが決心し たことは、喜ばしいことで素晴らしいと思います。みなさんは、未来 をより明るくし、社会に出てからの機会を増やし、視野を広げると いうプレゼントをお子さんに贈っているのです。英語を話せれば、お 子さんは国境や信条を超えて世界の人とコミュニケーションができ るようになるでしょう。それによって、誰もが安心して暮らせるもっ と平和な世界を築けるかもしれません。 ワールド・ファミリーで30年以上も仕事をしていますが、3歳くら いの幼い日本の子どもたちが英語を話すのを見ると、いまでも感動 します。子どもたちの学びを助ける鍵となるのは、その時々に適切 なタイミングで、心のこもったわかりやすい言葉でほめて励ますこ とだと思います。おざなりにほめても子どもたちは敏感に感じとっ てしまうので、いつどうやってほめるのか、注意が必要です。いつも 同じほめ方ではなく、言葉を変えるとよいでしょう。せっかくほめ方 を工夫しても、子どもが集中して取り組んでいる最中に声をかけて しまっては、せっかくの集中が切れてしまうかもしれないので、タイ ミングも重要です。みなさんのほめ言葉は、無限の可能性をもつ子 どもたちに自信を与えて成長させることができます。親から受ける 励ましには子どもの発達や学習に与えるよい効果がたくさんある のです。そしてもうひとつ大切なことは、DWEやPlay Along！を 使って楽しく学んでもらうということです。 ほめる ＋ 楽しい ＝ 成功ですよ！ 英語の短いほめことばをいくつかご紹介しましょう。
