When I was 17, I spent one year in Denmark as an exchange student.  I loved learning the language and the culture of Denmark.  One of my favorite things about Danish culture is the concept of hygge.  It is a word that is hard to translate.  It is a way of life that focuses on simple happy moments and savoring warm moments with family and friends. You feel hygge when you allow yourself to be in the moment and enjoy it fully.  Danish people love hygge and I think that is why they are the happiest country in the world. Let’s hygge.

17歳のとき、交換留学生としてデンマークで1年間暮らしました。デンマークの言葉や文化を学ぶのがとても楽しかったです。デンマークの文化の中で、気に入っているもののひとつが"hygge(ヒュッゲ)"です。この言葉は翻訳するのが難しいのですが、友だちや家族と過ごす幸せな時間や温かいひとときを大事にしようという姿勢です。その瞬間を心から楽しめば、それがヒュッゲです。デンマークの人たちはヒュッゲを大切にしているから、国民の幸福度が高い国として知られているのではないかと思っています。私たちもヒュッゲしましょう！
